My work with Richard has been formative to the way I approach both my own singing and my clinical practice as a speech-language pathologist who specializes in voice and upper airway disorders. His highly unique expertise in performance, pedagogy, and physiology allow him to deeply consider the art of the singing that is backed by his scientific training as a researcher. His common sense and no nonsense approach to voice production makes him an expert educator that is somehow able to demystify the intricacies of the human voice in a way that honors the person, as a complex whole, in front of him. He is truly one of a kind.

When I came to Richard, I was ready to quit singing. In my first lesson with him, he was able to get me to move through my registers with ease- something that several famous pedagogues at several famous conservatories had not been able to help me with. That lesson changed the course of my life. Within 6 months of working with Richard, I landed management and started getting hired. When I transitioned to teaching, he was my inspiration. Not only is Richard the most knowledgeable person about all things singing, he is the most generous teacher I have ever known. I hosted several weekend workshops (in Vermont) for Richard to work with my students.
Every lesson and masterclass was a revelation, for both the students and me. All of my singing and teaching success is due to Richard’s vast comprehensive knowledge of singing, his brilliant instruction and his huge generous soul.
